French Provincial Bathrooms

Dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, the French Provincial style originated in Provence when local furniture makers started imitating the ornate furniture produced for royalty, resulting in the creation of “French-country” pieces using the rustic materials they had access to.

Inspired by the rural landscapes of the South of France with its cheerful sunshine and sophisticated elegance, the French Provincial style is characterised by earthy and welcoming colours, rustic charm, and natural materials.

A typical colour palette for a French Provincial bathroom would feature nature-inspired colours such as neutrals, creams, soft whites, greys, yellows, and light blues. Classic French Provincial Bathrooms aspire to incorporate a combination of decorative wrought-iron lamps and mirrors with ornate carvings, rustic wooden vanity cabinets, and stone or timber floor tiles.

You can also opt to brighten things up with sunshine-yellow wallpaper and fresh flowers for a feminine touch or go masculine with brown timber vanity and grey-brown tiles.
