Originating in Provence during the 17th and 18th centuries when rural craftsmen started replicating the ornate furniture designs popular amongst the upper classes in Paris, the French Provincial style is inspired by the charming countryside of the South of France and its abundance of rustic materials.

Typically defined by the rustic elegance and warm and romantic Provençal countryside landscape, the classic French Provincial kitchen features a nature-inspired colour palette of neutral shades, off-whites, creams, and baby blues.

For the signature French country style, you can’t go wrong with a white porcelain or fireclay sink, while a classic stainless steel kitchen sink gives it a contemporary touch. Brass taps, wrought iron window frames, and metal grate kitchen cabinets all contribute to the rustic feel, while a stone wall or stone floor tiles add old-world character.

Wrought iron kitchen cabinet handles are characteristic of the French Provincial style, but black iron and antique brass are also commonly used.
